NALEO CONGRATULATES CONGRESS ON CENSUS RESOLUTIONS

LOS ANGELES - The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund issued the following statement regarding the U.S. House of Representatives passage of resolutions urging participation in the 2010 Census.

"We are very pleased that the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of two resolutions encouraging full participation in the 2010 Census and designating March 2010 as Census Awareness Month. We are especially gratified that both resolutions passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, as this confirms our members of Congress understand the Census is not a partisan issue and that full participation benefits us all."

H.RES 1086, sponsored by Rep. Joe Baca of California passed 415-1

H.RES 1096, sponsored by Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas passed 409-1

"We thank Reps. Baca and Reyes and their colleagues for their support of the 2010 Census and for a full and accurate count."

NALEO is coordinating the ya es hora ¡HAGASE CONTAR! campaign, a historic, non-partisan Latino civic participation initiative to encourage everyone to be counted in the 2010 Census. It includes a toll-free number for assistance, 877-EL CENSO (352-3676). Campaign partner Univisión will air a half-hour Census special on Saturday March 27 at 11a Eastern/10a Central, which will include a "how to" session on filling out the form.
