Floridians warned about a fake 2010 Census e-mail

The Better Business Bureau of Northeast Florida is warning Floridians that an e-mail falsely claiming to be from the organization is spreading inaccurate information about the 2010 Census.

The e-mail urges residents to be cautious about telling census workers anything other than how many people live at their address.

Bureau and census officials said residents can get accurate information abut the upcoming 2010 census by going to www.census.gov/2010census, including how to determine whether someone is really working for the census. For example, census representatives will be wearing ID badges from the Department of Commerce, will be able to provide contact information for their supervisor and will have with them a letter from the Census Bureau Director on official 2010 Census letterhead.

Census officials said that between April and July, their representatives will be going door-to-door to get information from every household that does not mail back the completed 10-question census form.
