Latino Population Surges 77 Percent In Nebraska

Census figures show Nebraska's Latino population surged 77 percent between 2000 and 2010 while the state grew 6.7 percent.

In 2010, Latinos accounted for more than 9 percent of the state's population, up from nearly 6 percent in 2000. About 86 percent of the state's population was white in 2010, down from 90 percent in 2000.

State lawmakers are considering several bills related to illegal immigration this year, and last year voters in the city of Fremont approved a measure that prohibits hiring or renting to illegal immigrants.
